On Wednesday, May 11th, AJ McMullen staff and students participated in what is called Helping Hands for Freedom-Walk Across America.  The overall mission of Helping Hands for Freedom is to provide military children and families the emotional support and financial assistance needed when dealing with a family member lost, wounded, or serving multiple deployments in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Their goal is to provide a house of healing for their Gold Star families to have a place to heal while they await their benefits. This home will feature six living quarters, where families can have some solitude as they begin rebuilding their lives.

Route for the Brave is walking across America to help raise money for these families. Two men, David Roth and Kevin Winton, will be literally walking across America from Atlantic City to San Francisco, a total of 3,091 miles. Their trip began on April 28 and conclude on August 28. The two walkers will be walking a marathon a day: 6 days a week for 17 weeks. On their journey they stopped at AJ to discuss their mission and collect donations to help with their foundation.

We, as a school, raised money by selling route for the brave bracelets. AJ presented a check as well as gift baskets to support the walkers and their cause.
